Regulation (EU) 2024/1235, active since July 2025, requires every imported meat shipment to carry a tamper-proof digital halal certificate. The European Commission’s DG SANTE portal lists 1.2 million verified transactions in the first eight weeks, up 340% year-on-year. Nestlé responded in June 2025 by rolling out a blockchain-tracked halal SKU line for Maggi bouillon, covering 14 EU markets. Eurostat’s 2025 digital-commerce survey shows Muslims aged 16–30 spend 37% more online than the national average. Carrefour countered in April 2025 with “Carrefour Halal,” a private-label poultry range sourced from France’s Loué cooperative, guaranteeing 100% domestic provenance. The line captured 4% of Carrefour’s fresh-meat revenue within 12 weeks. Meanwhile, Aldi Süd rolled out frozen halal pizzas in 1,900 German stores in August 2025, selling 2.3 m units in four weeks and signalling mass-market acceptance.
