A major setback for the Super Kings this season has been the absence of captain Ruturaj Gaikwad, who has been ruled out due to an elbow injury. His calm presence and ability to pace innings have been sorely missed.

“In my view, he’s one of India’s best players. He’s such a classy batsman, with all the shots and a brilliant cricket brain. He knows when to attack, when to defend, and how to manipulate the field. His absence is a massive loss,” Hussey admitted.

While CSK currently sits near the bottom of the points table, Hussey remains hopeful. With several games still to play in the league stage, there’s a belief in the camp that a late surge could still keep their playoff hopes alive.

“We’re certainly not putting the white flag up yet. In a long tournament like the IPL, momentum is everything. We just need one or two wins to get going again. We know we haven’t played consistently good cricket so far, but the belief is still there,” he said.
